Join Us in Welcoming Kathy McCovey to Her New Position at MKWC
We are excited to share that Kathy McCovey is now working with the Mid Klamath Watershed Council as Co-Executive Director! Kathy brings a lifetime of professional and personal experience relevant to the Klamath River region and beyond, and we are honored to have this opportunity to work with and learn from her as we strive to collaboratively plan and implement ecosystem restoration, promote community vitality, and involve people in land stewardship.
From Kathy:
I was born and raised on the Klamath River in Happy Camp and I am a member of the Karuk Tribe. My work history in Forestry, Fire, Cultural Resources Management, and Tribal Relations, combined with my formal education and personal experience, have given me extensive knowledge on collaborative land management that I will bring to the Mid Klamath Watershed Council. I began my career in Forestry and Fire working for the US Forest Service in the Orleans Ranger District in 1978. I retired from the US Forest Service in my role as an Archaeologist/Anthropologist in 2014. After retiring from the Forest Service I worked for eight years as a contractor for the Karuk Tribe working on ecosystem management projects. During that time, I also worked as a consultant contractor specializing in forestry and fire with the California Indian Environmental Alliance.
In my new position as Co-Executive Director for the Mid Klamath Watershed Council (MKWC), I bring years of knowledge about the Klamath River ecosystems, the communities along the middle section of the Klamath River, and an enthusiastic commitment to helping communities, Tribes and agencies manage our ecosystems together for the enhancement, protection, management and utilization of our unique landscapes that we call home. This role at MKWC – as a community based non-profit organization that partners with the Karuk Tribe, the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests, and many other local, regional, Tribal, and national organizations – gives me the opportunity to help guide restoration efforts in a manner that supports Tribal goals and objectives through meaningful collaborative planning. I look forward to bringing my expertise, energy, and new ideas to this dynamic team.
