Riparian Planting Program

Planting Willows to Stabilize a Streambank
Planting Willows to Stabilize a Streambank

The Mid Klamath Watershed Council  coordinates volunteer workdays to restore riparian areas after fish barrier removal projects.

Riparian plants may need to be reestablished after road decommissioning, floods, fires, timber harvest, and livestock use.

MKWC volunteers recently planted willows, alders, and conifers from off-site nurseries at the mouths of Rodgers and Merril Creeks where culverts were removed to allow fish passage.

In the future, MKWC aims to work with the US Forest Service and the Karuk Tribe to assist in stabilizing stream crossings on decommissioned road systems.
