Red Buttes Wilderness Area
In 2013 the Mid Klamath Watershed Council monitored a portion of the Red Buttes Wilderness for the presence of non-native invasive plant species. This project was made possible with support of the National Forest Foundation and by the hard work of MKWC's summer youth crew. We found very few invasive plants present, see map for details.
The survey work of MKWC combined with efforts of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest will bring a complete inventory of the Red Buttes Wilderness Area in 2014. The Red Buttes Wilderness was impacted by the Fort Goff Fire in 2012, potentially causing this wilderness to become more vulnerable to the invasion of non-native plants. This project is especially timely and will help to protect this beautiful area from the negative impacts of invasive plants.Red Buttes Weeds Inventory Map 2013
