MKWC is dedicated to educating our river communities about the
benefits of using of native plants for restoration and landscaping.
Native plants are excellent for fire-resistant landscaping and as
competition for invasive plants. Additionally, native plants
often require less water than non-native plants.
Other uses include revegetation after road decommissioning,
prescribed burning or wildfire, and after fish barrier removal.
Native plants can increase riparian shade cover and increase
wildlife forage.
Our native plant program compliments many of our other programs.
MKWC is currently focusing on:
Collaboration and agreements between local nurseries and other
established nurseries, restoration practitioners, agencies and
funders
Knowledge transfer from successful native plant restoration
programs to local nurseries and restorationists
Increasing awareness of the value of native plants in
watershed restoration
Current projects include:
Riparian Planting Workdays at Disturbed Sites
Native Plant Propagation Workshops
Native Plant Demonstration Garden at the Daryl “Day Pay”
McCovey Memorial Park in Orleans, California
Non-Timber Forest Products Feasibility Study and Workshop
