A multi-organization Type III burn team including the Mid Klamath Watershed Council, Karuk Tribe, Happy Camp Fire Safe Council, The Nature Conservancy, USFS, local Volunteer Fire Departments, and other groups will implement prescribed burns in the Happy Camp and Somes Bar/Orleans area this fall.

After this wildfire season we realize all the more how important it is for our communities to be fire resilient. Prescribed burning reduces fuel loading and wildfire risks in order to protect communities, homes and lives. With proper planning, in the right conditions during a safe burn window at strategic locations, prescribed burns are an effective tool. This effort requires close coordination with multiple organizations and residents to be successful. TREX organizers are working with regulatory agencies and partners to coordinate these burns, which will be implemented following strict protocols which ensure safe and effective fuels reduction. Please attend the Friday Sept 29th Community Meeting & Free Dinnerat Happy Camp Art Center at 6 p.m. for presentations on this year’s Klamath River TREXas well as the efforts of the Happy Camp Fire Safe Council and the Happy Camp Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
