Chicken Tractor Series
A chicken tractor is a mobile coop on wheels which allows you to move your chickens around your garden/ homestead as often as you like, benefiting the chickens with fresh pasture and the garden with chicken-powered tillage and fertilization. After years of building, designing and tinkering, Wilson Forbes developed a chicken tractor that is light, predator proof, and can easily be moved by one person. Prior to his passing in September of 2016, he donated designs, templates and tools to MKWC so that community members can build their own.
This workday series will run (approximately) every other Saturday, beginning March 11. We will have tools, templates and materials set up and make chicken tractors together. Making a chicken tractor from start to finish requires a lot of work and attention to details, we estimate 40 - 60 hours for the entire project, depending on skill level. it will be necessary to put in time in addition to the workday series. If you're fired up and ready for a project like this then you can pre-register and we'll purchase materials ahead of time for you (there will be a materials fee of $100 - $150). If you are not ready to commit to a project like this then you can still come and help out and learn. Ross Cornwell will be leading a welding demonstration on March 14 from 3-5 pm, an excellent opportunity for anyone curious about welding.
If you want to build your own tractor then it is essential that you pre-register, we need to purcahse materals -ahead of time and space is limited. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the MKWC office at 627-3207.
